Hello, my name is Asha. None of this will be of interest to you.

2012

  1. Be a good person.
  2. Write more.
  3. Take more pictures.
  4. Save money.
  5. Study. Understand. Calm down.

He would have been 14 today.

Today, I would have exclaimed, “Happy Birthday, Kulfi!!!” And you would have wagged your tail emphatically because you knew what high pitched voices meant: cookies. “Do you want a cookie?” was often asked in the same pitch. You thought anything at that octave meant food. You would have been right.

I miss you every single day, Kulfi. I wish you were staying up with me during finals like last year. I caught myself looking under the table for you. I have no idea why. But I still look for you. I still think you’ll be poking your nose through the door as I open it. I still want to yell cat! when I see them roaming the back yard.  They’ve gotten very bold without you there to keep them in their place, you know.

I hope you’re protecting your territory in heaven, Kulfi. I hope you have plenty of cookies, and I hope you know how much we loved you and how much we still love you.

Happy Birthday, Kulfi.

The day before his 12th Birthday

In which public radio gives me a guilt trip.

Dear NPR/KUHF,

I think it’s fine that you guilt tripped me for a week about donating to public radio. Yes, you have convinced me that i can give up one latte a month. You have shamed me into no longer being the freeloader that mooches off of the generous people. Whatever. You win.

BUT YOU WILL NOT succeed in guilt tripping me for wanting the damn “free” thank you gift. I don’t care if it’s just a mug that will break in a year. I want it. So don’t ask me if I would like to “give my full 60 dollars to KUHF and forgo the thank you gift.”

After all, I need something to put my latte in once a month.

xo,

asha

Who knew coinstar could be so depressing? Rejected coins reminded me how much cooler life was before this whole law school business.
